My name is Marius Pop and I want to open out to everyone in Romania and abroad the beautiful Romanian Shepherd Dog Breed, exactly how it is today. This breed fascinated me from my early childhood, when, at the dog shows organized in Bistrita, breeders from Bucovina area used to come with imposing size dogs, with strong skeleton, massive “bear like” head, short and thick “molosoid” nose, superb fur, quasi-long manned hair - pure white or white with black and grey spots, which all got everybody’s admiration.

Two years ago, I started to inquire about this wonderful breed, so that I’ve walked through Bucovina area, wherein I have had the chance to meet a wonderful man, an authentic Romanian Shepherd Dog of Bucovina breeder (RSDB), who is concerned in raising and reforming this breed over 25 years old, named Ghiuta Stefan Dorin – the owner of Romanian Shepherd “Humor”  Dog breed (from Gura Humorului area).

This man really impressed me with his special hospitality (a Bucovinanian habit ), with his passion, dedication and relevant experience concerning the genealogy and raising of RSDB. Actually, the most valuable exemplar, the RSDB gold standard from Romania and abroad, is coming today  from “Humor” Dog Breed.

Together with this man I walked through many villages and cities of Bucovina, we talked with different kind of breeders and we photographed all the beautiful RSDB’s specimens we saw. All the pictures can be seen on this site.

I must say that RSDB, as all Romanian Shepherd Dogs, is a natural breed, selected among time by the Romanian breeders of Bucovina, firstly for their capability of guarding flocks, herds and properties. The guided selection was quick and inconsistent, for which reason there is a lot of work to be done as far as the breed uniformity is concerned.

In past few years, owing to the passionate breeders such as Dorin Ghiuta ( "Humor" breed), Stroe Macovei ("Plai Vrancean" breed), Vasiliu Vasile (" Radaseni" breed), Talasman Constantin (owner of very valuable specimens) Raznic Edward ("Sapte Coline" breed), Costel Mihali (Arad city), Dronca Daniel ("Miorita” breed), Nache Gabriela ("Bradut" breed), Drelciuc Marian ("Piatra Pinului" breed) and others, this breed is on its good way to become internationally homologated once and for all, by the help of Romanian Dog Association.

Within the two years time, I purchased 8 exemplars of RSDB and together with two flock owners from Bargau Valley, we will try to contribute to the guided selection of this breed, and also to preserve the utility for which this breed was created in the first place – the safeguard instinct of flocks, herds and properties.

This year, at the CAC dog shows organized in Bistrita and Suceava counties, the numbers of exemplars exhibited was impressive (around 50 exemplars), many valuable dogs, but we would have wanted that this breed had been more advertised throughout media channels.
Concerning that these pictures could be used by unauthorized persons in order to promote and commercialize some dogs which have nothing to do with the breed I hereby presented, please genuinely inform yourselves when you want to purchase a valuable dog.
